“Fáinne Geal an Lae” is a lightly fictionalised memoir, blending recollections and fiction. It follows the life of a young girl named Róisín growing up in the Dublin suburb of Ranelagh during the 1950s and 1960s. She lives with her father, mother, sister Brídín, and brother Conn at 9 Castar Road in Ranelagh. They attend an all-Irish school in the centre of Dublin City. However, Ranelagh has undergone significant changes since then.
During that time, Ranelagh was home to working-class families, and financial prosperity was rare in the area. Bridín gradually discovers this reality as the story unfolds, marking a significant moment in the young girl’s coming-of-age journey. “Fáinne Geal an Lae” provides a nostalgic recollection of Róisín’s formative years.
