Ireland - Éire - Ériu
This design was inspired by the island of Ireland and its name Éire in Gaeilge. Éire comes from Ériu who with her two sisters Banbha and Fodhla formed a triple deity, representing the dimensions of the divine feminine. They were descended from the spiritual tribe of the Tuatha Dé Danann a race of supernatural beings. Ériu is seen as goddess of the land. In the design process I textured the silver to create a Spiral from the centre of Ireland. This represents the central hill of Uisneach 'the mystical navel of Ireland', upon which rested a great stone Ail na Míreann said to mark the meeting point of Ireland’s provinces. This “royal” site plays a central role in the stories of the Tuatha dé Danaan and is said to be the burial place of Ériu.
