CUR SÍOS

Birds in Irish mythology were thought to be messengers between this world and the otherworld. They are also important symbols in Celtic Art adorning the Book of Kells and in battle, decorating shields and scabbards possibly with a kind of protective or talismanic purpose. The swallow is admired for its speed in many Irish legends. In the Cattle Raid of Cooley, Cuchulain fights the warrior Ferdia with the readiness of a Swallow. Swallows, in particular, heralded the start of the Summer in Ireland and were a sign of good weather. In Donegal, a very hot Summer’s day was known as Lá na nÁinleoige. It was considered a good omen for a swallow to fly into your house.

This product measures 18mm long and 20mm wide.
