The keffiyeh, poppy flower and peace dove all form highly significant symbols of identity and hope within Palestine. The woman in this piece wears a Palestinian Throbe adorned with Tatreez embroidery, a form of traditional dress. In the face of indiscriminate destruction and colonisation, symbols associated with the land, art, people and culture are essential providers of hope and resilience. ‘Saoirse’, in Irish, meaning Freedom- taken from the vibrant and powerful Irish Palestinian solidarity movement.
